Own the ChatGPT answer
and the ad
below it.
Growthr is a ChatGPT ads agency. We launch and scale campaigns in OpenAI's Ads Manager on conversion tracking built before the first dollar, using the attribution behind $250M+ in managed ad spend. Our GEO team works on the other half of the screen: getting your brand named in the answer above the ad.
How ChatGPT ads work
inside Ads Manager.
ChatGPT shows ads below its answers to people on the Free and Go plans, labeled as sponsored and kept separate from the response. Advertisers buy them in OpenAI's self-serve Ads Manager. Everything we build lives in your account, so the data and history stay yours.
Choose the objective before you build
Every campaign starts with one of three objectives: Views, billed per 1,000 impressions; Clicks, billed per click; or Conversions, billed per click or per 1,000 impressions and never per conversion. OpenAI does not let you change the objective or billing method after a campaign is created, so we set both from your unit economics before launch.

16 characters to get the click
Each ad has your name and logo, a headline OpenAI suggests keeping to about 16 characters, a description of about 32, and an image, where OpenAI advises against using your logo as the main visual. With that little room, we write several variants per offer and let conversion data pick the winner.

Why brands hire a
ChatGPT ads agency.
Anyone can open Ads Manager and launch a campaign. The expensive mistakes come from settings you cannot change later and from tracking that was skipped. OpenAI's own FAQ says the platform has no performance benchmarks yet, so the numbers that matter come from your own first test.
Optimized for conversions from day one
Conversion-optimized campaigns need the Pixel or Conversions API live and a supported standard event available before they can launch. We wire both first, plus your mobile measurement partner for apps, so campaigns start on the Conversions objective instead of buying cheap clicks.
Targeting built from buyer prompts
ChatGPT has no keywords to bid on. Ads match the intent of the conversation, the landing page, and the context hints on each ad group. We write those hints from the prompts your buyers type, and layer in your customer lists to include, exclude, or bid up your highest-value customers.
Both halves of the screen
The ad sits below the answer, and our GEO program works on the answer itself. Paid ChatGPT clicks and organic ChatGPT referrals are reported on separate lines, so you see what each one is worth and neither takes credit for the other.
How to advertise on ChatGPT,
the way we run it.
Three stages, each with a check before the next one starts.
Confirm who you can reach
Ads appear for ChatGPT users on the Free and Go plans. Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu accounts never see ads, and neither do accounts OpenAI identifies as under 18. Self-serve access depends on the country of the legal entity that advertises and is billed; OpenAI keeps the current list. We confirm your category and markets qualify, then map the prompts your buyers ask by intent.
Wire conversions, then build
The JavaScript Pixel and Conversions API go in first, with your mobile measurement partner connected for app installs and UTMs on every landing page. Then campaigns split by intent, context hints per ad group, custom audiences, headline and description variants, and for retail catalogs, a product feed campaign.
Launch on conversions, scale on revenue
We test impression billing against click billing on the Conversions objective, since OpenAI's impression billing also credits conversions that follow an ad view. Its default Maximize results bidding does not hold a CPA or ROAS target, so we switch to a manual max bid wherever your margins need one. Budget moves up only when cost per customer holds at the next spend level.
What ChatGPT ads
management includes.
All of it runs inside the retainer, next to every other paid channel we manage for you.
Ads Manager setup
Account, verification, billing, and team access, set up so you own the account and its data.
Conversion tracking
JavaScript Pixel and Conversions API, plus app attribution through Adjust, AppsFlyer, Branch, Kochava, Singular, Airbridge, or Tenjin.
Prompt map and context hints
The questions your buyers ask ChatGPT, grouped by intent and turned into ad groups with hints that describe where each one belongs.
Custom audiences
Customer and prospect lists for inclusion, exclusion, and bid adjustments. Inclusion needs 25,000 matched users, and OpenAI recommends 100,000.
Product feed campaigns
For retail catalogs, product ads with images, prices, and ratings. We connect the feed by hosted URL or SFTP, because uploaded items expire after two weeks.
Creative and landing pages
Headline, description, and image variants per offer from our creative team, plus tests on the page each ad sends people to.
A new channel, run by a team
with $250M+ in ad spend behind it.
OpenAI began testing ads in ChatGPT on February 9, 2026, so no agency has years of ChatGPT ads results, and we don't claim any. What carries over is how we launch a new channel: attribution first, creative tested weekly, budget moved on cost per customer. And we have already grown our own traffic from ChatGPT's answers.
StellarFi
Launched across Meta, Google, TikTok, and Reddit at once with attribution built first, tested 50+ creative variations, scaled spend 5x while cutting CAC 50%, and reached $2M ARR in 150 days. Read the case study.
growthr.com in ChatGPT, organic
We ran our GEO playbook on our own site in July 2026. Sessions referred by ChatGPT grew 11x in the last 90 days versus the prior 90 (GA4, as of August 2026). Early numbers on a young channel, from several changes shipped together. That traffic comes from the answer, the part of the screen above where ChatGPT ads now run.
Inside the retainer.
Media paid to OpenAI.
ChatGPT ads run inside the embedded retainer: $10,000 per month plus a flat 10% of managed media spend, the same rate as Meta, Google, and every other paid channel, with no channel surcharge. OpenAI bills media directly to your Ads Manager account; there is no minimum contract, and OpenAI sets a minimum daily budget that varies by billing currency. Below roughly $20,000 a month in total media spend, the retainer is usually the wrong fit. Detail is on the pricing page and the performance marketing page.
Getting named inside the answer itself is a separate, flat-fee program: the GEO ladder starts with a $99 strategy call. To see what ChatGPT says about you today, run the 20-minute check yourself.
ChatGPT ads FAQ.
What does a ChatGPT ads agency do?
A ChatGPT ads agency plans, launches, and manages paid campaigns in OpenAI's Ads Manager for a business. That covers account setup, conversion tracking through the Pixel, Conversions API, or a mobile measurement partner, campaigns built from the prompts buyers type, custom audiences, product feeds for retail, ad creative, bidding, and reporting tied to revenue. Growthr runs ChatGPT ads inside the same embedded retainer as every other paid channel, and its GEO program works on getting the brand named in ChatGPT's answer.
How do ChatGPT ads work?
ChatGPT ads appear below a response, labeled as sponsored and visually separated from it. Each ad shows the advertiser's name and logo, a headline, a description, an image, and a link. OpenAI picks ads by expected relevance and outcomes, using the intent of the conversation, the ad's landing page and copy, the advertiser's context hints, and, when the user has ads personalization on, signals from their wider ChatGPT use. Ads are chosen in a relevance-weighted, second-price auction.
When did ChatGPT start showing ads?
OpenAI began testing ads in ChatGPT in the United States on February 9, 2026. A focused pilot ran from February through April, after which OpenAI opened self-serve access through Ads Manager and expanded to more countries.
Who sees ads in ChatGPT?
Ads appear for users on ChatGPT's Free and Go plans. Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu accounts do not get ads, and OpenAI does not show ads to accounts it identifies as belonging to people under 18. During the test, ads do not appear in the ChatGPT Atlas browser.
Do ads change ChatGPT's answers?
No. OpenAI states that ads run on separate systems from the chat model and that advertisers cannot shape, rank, or alter ChatGPT's responses. Being named inside the answer is earned through generative engine optimization (GEO), which Growthr runs as its own program.
How much do ChatGPT ads cost?
ChatGPT ads are bought on three objectives: Views, billed per 1,000 impressions (CPM); Clicks, billed per click (CPC); and Conversions, billed per click or per 1,000 impressions, never per conversion. OpenAI recommends starting Clicks campaigns at a maximum bid of $3 to $5 per click, and sets a minimum daily budget that varies by billing currency. It publishes no performance benchmarks yet, so cost per customer comes from testing. Growthr's management fee is $10,000 per month plus 10% of managed media spend.
How do I advertise on ChatGPT?
Sign up at ads.openai.com and complete account verification. Set up conversion tracking with the JavaScript Pixel or Conversions API. Create a campaign with an objective (Views, Clicks, or Conversions), countries, a budget, and dates, then ad groups with context hints and bids, then ads with a headline, description, image, and landing page. Every ad is reviewed by OpenAI before it serves. The objective cannot be changed after the campaign is created, so decide it first.
Can you target audiences with ChatGPT ads?
Yes, within limits. Ads match the context of the conversation rather than keywords, and campaigns can be limited by country and platform. Custom audiences built from emails, phone numbers, or Google Advertising IDs can include, exclude, or adjust bids for specific people. Inclusion and bid adjustments need at least 25,000 matched users, and OpenAI recommends 100,000; exclusions work at any size.
Do ChatGPT ads work for mobile apps?
Yes. ChatGPT Ads integrates with the mobile measurement partners Adjust, Airbridge, AppsFlyer, Branch, Kochava, Singular, and Tenjin, so app installs and in-app events can be measured and used for optimization.
Which countries can advertise on ChatGPT?
Self-serve Ads Manager is available when the legal entity that advertises and is billed is based in a supported country. As of October 2026 that includes the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, most of Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, India, Brazil, Mexico, and others. OpenAI's Ads Manager availability page has the current list.
What are Sponsored Agents in ChatGPT?
Sponsored Agents are an ad format that lets a person open a conversation with an AI representative of a business inside ChatGPT. As of October 2026, OpenAI offers them only to selected advertisers in a limited alpha and is not taking early-access requests.
What is the difference between ChatGPT ads and GEO?
ChatGPT ads are paid placements below the answer, bought in Ads Manager. Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the work of getting a brand named inside the answer itself, which depends on whether ChatGPT can retrieve your pages and what other sources say about you. Growthr runs both and reports them separately.
